At the end of every year, end of year lists come out and people's opinions are often either supremely disappointing (people enjoying the new Jay-Z), shaped entirely after the bullshit that can be read on "P4k" (used to be half-fucked, now grown to total fuckage), or actually decent to the point that I can agree with most of it. HAHAHAHA i know i know i keep fakin y'all out. but this time i actually make sense. fuck wedding bell, fuck ponyfaced. those were names i had thought of myself, which is why i ended up hating them over time. but this one is never going away--- my brother pointed it out to me, and here's the story behind it:

When I was younger, my family took a trip to the land of Suburbia Supreme (westchester) to visit some of my parent's old friends from college. They also had kids. I guess we played tic-tac-toe or something, whatever. After the game, I jumped off the picnic table, exclaiming "X O!" during my descent. For the following years our friends in suburbia supreme knew me only as "XO Kid." SO IT MUST BE.

SERIOUS DILEMMA.

ponyface, the name I released my last work and this entire blog under, turns out to be this really shitty band from australia i think. whatever they suck and they had my name. their myspace: PONYFACE So I'm thinking i just might change my name. But of course this is alot of work. I would have to change the Album Artwork, All my recorded music tags, the blog url, and anything else i can think of. but i'm unsure about a new name. I've been considering "Wedding Bell", partly because of the beach house song and because of a band I played with once and seen twice that recently changed their name. tell me what y'all think/

I don't know how this one got by me. I think I found this band somehow one day in the beginning of my sophomore year or end of freshman. But either way they've been one of the bands I enjoy the most. I never really talked about them to anyone until now, probably because I know almost nothing about them. They kinda have that math rock-type sound goin on, but they don't rely on that technicality/crazy guitar line to write the song, which is very nice. and they pull off sloppy perfectly. It sort of sucks it seems like they broke up but idk they haven't updated their website in 3 years: houseopolisrecords.com

there's this band Many Mansions. they rule. if you never listened to their stuff you need to now. actually if you never listened to HIS stuff, because from what I understand it's a one man project. even more amazing.

I first downloaded this album off id Reverbs., and i have been listening to it alot since. very very good. sounds like a native american chief jammin with panda bear / eric copeland.

I went to ny last weekend, had a really great time, and I'm only getting around to writing about it now. whoops.

So during my travel time, I listened to alot of new music I just downloaded and ended up with 3 albums that are instantly new favorites. Here ya go:

1. Ty Segall - Lemons

I've been meaning to get this album for a while, I kept hearing good things about it. I finally listened to it and Ty hits the fuckin spot when it comes to garage rock. its like if the sonic youth were 12 year olds. but really good.

2. Akron/family - Set 'Em Wild, Set 'Em Free

If you like a mix, this album is insane. every other measure seems like it can be classified as a different genre, but the whole thing is very well connected. it's a good listen. like artrock/progrock/southernrock/folk/pop/electro/dance/jazz/funk/tropical and everything in between.

3. jj - jj n° 2

Yeah, I know what you're all thinking: I totally got this from Pitchfork's best new albums. and I did. But don't listen and immediately think 'stupid pop shit' when you hear it. mull it over, listen to the ridiculous lyrics, and you'll realize jj is a smart-ass mocking of pop. it's really good, trust me. plus the album artwork is awesome.

Enjoy those, I'm going to beautifully-new-england Cape Cop for a week tomorrow, and I'll probably have more new favorite albums when I get back.

not going to lie, everytime i listen to this song i get less and less impressed. nothing to scream about.

Radiohead released a new single TODAY (Wed 8/5), and yes, I had to buy it. The song is named Harry Patch (In Memory Of) and was recorded live in an abbey... the song is amazingly beautiful... like really. amazing. Jonny did the string arrangements and probably conducted them as well, and its done stunningly. The song was written for the UK's last survivor of WWI, who died recently died at the age 111. fucking old. Read all about it, in Thom Yorke's words, at Radiohead's blog.

So I got the leaked No Age ep. it's alot less angry than the No Age I know... and they weren't kidding when they told p4k that it was going to be different. but its good. not great. but good. maybe It needs a few more listens. you should get it now. right now. bc its not supposed to exist until October 6th.

So here's the plan for MY new approach:
everyone with a mediafire account is going to click the "save to my files" button and eventually there will be so many of the same file that they cant delete them all fast enough. could be revolutionary. or you could pay for it and let all your friends rip it off CD...

The other day I stumbled on this band called Dunes. They're playing some shows with Best Coast , High Places , Pearl Harbour and Vivian Girls soon so obviously they seemed worth checking out. Problem is, there's about 19 bands all named Dunes and most of them suck (google reference here). So after I listened to some stuff on their myspace, and really liked it, I started looking for any downloads and have been ever since. After all weekend of searching, this morning I finally found somewhat of a breakthrough on a weird-ass French blog. I'm not complaining though, especially because only 3 Dunes songs exist that I have ever heard and they gave me 2 of them. I decided to not be lazy for once and get the last one by myself. Now I'm giving them to you.

Since the trend of late (pretty much all of 2009) has been lots and lots and almost TOO MUCH garage rock, I like the fact that this band is bringing it back to the old old old school style, like 60's shit. originally saw this on Id Reverberations, probably was only on there because the two bands are friends. still, I dig this first song on this virtual 7". I think these guys are signed to Woodsist, who isn't these days.

In any case, do you all remember READING RAINBOW on PBS? I do. But I don't remember much, only the title sequence, with a bunch of kids turning into whatever they want cartoon-style with a rainbow splashing over everything.

Anyway, I'm bringing this up because reading rainbow is back in my life. and I like it. this duo from Philly rules my itunes right now. maybe I just like them because when this album is over, it plays straight into Real Estate. win-win. CRAZy thing just happenned. I was eating breakfast and my ipod was on shuffle. I lit up some wiid (MC Chris - Wiid) when all of a sudden the sky started raining like a kissing scene from a stupid romantic movie. and out of nowhere, in the middle of a song, my ipod skipped to the next song (this is explainable because my iPod software is sort of corrupted and it makes my iPod do weird things like erase itself). So I'm standing there on the porch, smoking some jane, wondering what the fuck is going on...
and this song comes on (Bright Eyes - Spent on Rainy Days). Which i realize is weird as fuck because that song is about doing drugs, and mostly about smoking weed, on rainy days. Thats when I noticed that I just smoked the last of what I had. So this song became kind of like a narrative of my day. FIN.

Mixtape coming soon, I promise. Also started recording some new music... I really hate some of it. But there's one song I made that I like, I'll try and put together a virtual 7" when i get around to it. expect it before the end of august for everything else, I'll do the best i can
